WBCOOP: Day 1

Busted out at 507 with KQs vs AKs; hit a king on the flop and then no help later.

Going to try again tomorrow with the Omaha tournament; hopefully I'll have more luck then.

WBCOOP starts tonight!

Starting tonight is Pokerstars' World Blogger Championship of Online Poker (WBCOOP), which I will be participating in. There are 7 events, 1 every night this week. The prizes are tickets for entry into the Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) of various values.

I'll be updating this blog with my progress throughout the tournament.

Good luck to everyone that participates!

Two new things on two sites I play on:

Full Tilt's Rush Poker: Sounds good in theory--as soon as you fold your hand (even out of position) you're randomly re-seated at a new table, ready to get a new hand. BB is determined by whoever at the table hasn't posted it in the longest time. It seemed to me like nearly every hand ended up being a blind steal or 2-3 players going all-in at each other. I could see this being a very good way to lose a lot of your bankroll pretty fast.

Pokerstars' WBCOOP: I suppose it's just new to me as I didn't know about it before, but I'll be participating this year (hopefully, since this blog is fairly new and I don't know if they'll accept my generic personal blog for entry). I'll repost the required stuff here just in case they get finicky:

Online Poker

I have registered to play in the PokerStars World Blogger Championship of Online Poker! The WBCOOP is a free online Poker tournament open to all Bloggers, so register on WBCOOP to play.

That's all you need to do to register for it. I like it.

It looks like I'm going to begin writing content for Pokerstop.com in the near future. You should go check them out, they have a lot of information about various freerolls and promotions available on different sites. They have a poker strategy book coming out soon that's really good (I'm about a third of the way done reading it. It's really good not just for beginners but also people looking to get more involved in the deeper aspects (EV, implied odds, positional play, etc).

It's free for members so it's at least worth checking out!

As I'm sure most would agree with, playing while under the influence is not a good idea, especially with unlimited re-buy tournaments.

Back to square 1 (and by that I mean freerolling, yuck)

10 January 2010

I'd been getting my roommate into poker lately, and he wanted to see how he would fare online. I told him to jump onto Full Tilt (he set up his account of "deadmoondino")and try to win one of their National Heads-up Qualifier Freerolls.

I figured that either he'd burn out on it or get really into it and decide to make a deposit. I didn't expect he'd actually win the second or third one he entered!

I shipped him $5 on Full Tilt and told him to go enter tournaments with it and see how he does. First tournament he enters is a $2 180 man SnG, places 10 for $5.40.

I've always thought I'm a better teacher than a do-er.

2) need to be left alone while playing

Transferred some of my money over to pokerstars (ranatalus77) and decided to have a go of things. Either they are worse or better, I can't quite tell. Lots of bad beats (AA to J9s) but I'm listening to Sota Fujimori so I'll take it as it comes :)

Overall -EV on the day but hey, it happens. I'll pick it back up tomorrow.

The right way to play flopped quads

Test post really, from early a game last weekend. I'm utg+1.

Checked the flop. turn had utg bet 3x BB, i call (knowing the CO AND BT will fold a re-raise, button re-raises to 8x BB (confused at that point - pocket 10s and he checked the flop too? rockets? straight draw?). everyone calls.river comes, utg bets 3x BB, i min raise. CO calls, BT pushes. all call. knocked out 2 and put the third down to about 7% my stack size. a good night :)
in case you can't see the cards clearly:

Hello! This is the start of something that I'm sure will be a monumental failure and a great way for me to really look back and kick myself in the ass later, but hey, it'll be a nice paper trail too.

I've started taking up poker semi-seriously. I was quite bad at first (look at the shark-scope for rana573 on Pstars, ouch) but figured things out as I went. After a time I realized It was time to start a new name on a new site to try to start over, and, like many other players, I've decided to do a $0-??? challenge.

I'm now playing as "ranatalus" on Full Tilt.com and hopefully this will turn out to be something lucrative! If not it'll be a nice thing for me to look back on and laugh about later.

If you somehow see this blog and see me on the tables, feel free to say hi! I'll probably be friendly unless my AA just got cracked by 38o :))
